Start a career where You Matter by applying today Job Overview The Director of Proposal Management will lead and produce all aspects of the proposal process for the Drug Substance Business Unit. Responsibilities include i) determining best technical fit for screening new RFQs, ii) identifying and assessing technical solution(s) for our customer, iii) coordinating with SMEs for technical input, iv) preparing cost analyses and pricing proposals, and v) providing written proposals while meeting our customers’ deadlines. This position will act as the primary point of contact during the proposal development phase, provide support to business development in follow up with customers and ensure a seamless introduction to project management at project kick-off. In addition, this role will work with the senior leadership to develop operational solutions for our customers at the launch/commercial phase to ensure our customers’ commercial success utilizing internal know-how rather than assessment of a client RFQ. The role will support the 3 main sites in the drug substance BU; some travel may be required to ensure familiarity with the unique capabilities at each site. Responsibilities Primary: Drive all cost and pricing elements for new proposals and change of scopes individually or through a team Responsible for working with key stakeholders including business development and external customers to clearly define project scope, strategy, resource requirements, timelines, deliverables, pricing, and appropriate risk mitigation Ensure that the timelines and due dates for proposals are met Plays a proactive role in optimizing and harmonizing while developing and applying new approaches, procedures, and processes with coordination across sites and business units Works closely with BD to achieve the new business target, optimize profit and fill the site manufacturing capacity Works closely with the sites to perform cost analyses of existing commercial projects while proposing suggestions for improvement Works with finance to ensure workbook calculation models are up to date as well as drives opportunities to improve fit for purpose costing Responsible for administration of workflows in Salesforce.com Secondary: Identify and implement opportunities for improvement in the proposal process including improvements on cost models and overall business process Other duties as required Qualifications/Skills COMMUNICATION SKILLS Superior verbal and written communication skills with both internal and external customers Effective negotiating skills Communicate and influence at a senior level MANAGEMENT SKILLS Establish a team environment of inclusion, empowerment, support and cooperation Promote a safe environment for work Comply with the general policy of the company Pro-active approach to problem solving Planning and organizing Ability to lead a fast-paced, cross-functional team while maintaining customer deadlines INTERPERSONNAL AND BEHAVIORAL SKILLS Highly goal and result oriented Prioritizes tasks according to business objectives and can pursue several objectives simultaneously Can work independently with a high degree of self-motivation Skilled at obtaining support from SMEs in various disciplines Tackles problems with enthusiasm and urgency Treats colleagues at all levels with respect Education, Experience & Licensing Requirements TECHNICAL SKILLS BSc/MSc in science with a focus on organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, or engineering A minimum of fifteen (15) years’ experience in a technical operation role in manufacturing or pharmaceutical development; MBA or commercial experience a plus Ability to write and peer-review highly technical proposals Strong business acumen and problem-solving skills Cambrex is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action employer and will consider all qualified applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, protected veteran status, or disability status.
