**Job Description**

An Engineering Geologist to undertake a wide variety of work based around Ground Engineering consultancy.The AECOM UK&I Ground Engineering Practice is expanding and has a vacancy for an early career level Engineering Geologist in Chesterfield. This is an ideal opportunity for a candidate already filling this role elsewhere, or a good graduate with some experience looking to make the next move in their career.

Our Ground Engineering Practice covers all elements of Ground Engineering with a wide range of end markets including highways, rail, water and nuclear sectors. Nationally, our Ground Engineering team comprises some 190 staff, with close integration across the team to share knowledge and provide a broad range of opportunities for staff within the UK and overseas.We require ambitious team players with the technical skills, knowledge and experience to take day to day responsibility for delivery of projects and tasks, ensuring technical quality and adherence to budget and programme. The position will suit those who wants to work with a good degree of day to day independence on schemes at all stages of their life cycle.

Job duties :

+ As an Engineering Geologist in our team, you will undertake, with appropriate support, a diverse variety of work including:

+ Contribute to or lead the production of desk study, interpretive, design reports, technical notes and input to specifications and contract documentation.

+ Undertake rockface inspections including undertaking discontinuity surveys and identification of rock fall hazards across a variety of environments including rope access work.

+ Scoping, tendering and supervision of ground investigations

+ Data interpretation, parameter derivation and design of geotechnical works including slopes, rock face remedial works, foundations, retaining structures, earthworks, strengthened earthworks, and ground improvement.

+ Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary design team interfacing directly with other ground engineering team members and with other internal design teams from various disciplines and contractors.

+ You will take responsibility for delivery of small projects or parts of projects under senior guidance and will assist in the internal checking and review of work by other members of the geotechnical team.

**Qualifications**

+ A degree in Geology together with an MSc in Engineering Geology or similar would be preferred.
