Job Description

The Transportation Division of AECOM is seeking a GIS Specialist to hire for employment within our Technology Solutions Department in the Houston, Texas office. The position provides the opportunity to work on exciting, challenging, and high-profile transportation projects.

Under supervision, the GIS Specialist will be responsible for supporting a variety of geospatial and data analysis tasks for technology, transportation, and traffic applications. Join a team of experienced technology solution experts to create innovative solutions applying new and emerging technology to transportation.

Job Functions include:

  • Create and maintain accurate geospatial datasets, maps, and reports using ArcGIS Online and other GIS software, tools, and technologies.
  • Conduct data analysis to support transportation planning, design, and maintenance projects.
  • Develop custom GIS applications, scripts, and tools to improve data quality, accessibility, and efficiency using ArcGIS Online.
  • Manage and maintain TxDOT's applications, geospatial data, and metadata on ArcGIS Online and other platforms according to established standards and policies.
  • Collaborate with project teams, consultants, and stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely delivery of GIS data and products.
  • Provide technical support and training to GIS users within TxDOT on ArcGIS Online and other GIS tools.
  • Prepare and give effective presentations.
  • Good communication skills and team spirit.
  • Work in a collaborative, fast-paced team environment.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Planning or other related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in GIS, Planning, or other related field.
  • Experience in GIS analysis and application development.
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS Online and other GIS software such as Esri ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar tools.
  • Experience with geodatabase management and data modeling.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of transportation systems and related data.
  • Self-motivated individual with strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with ArcGIS, MS Office, and preparing graphics and visuals.
  • Demonstrate excellent written, verbal, and graphical skills.

Additional Information

  • Relocation assistance is not offered for this position.
  • We are interested in every qualified candidate eligible to work in the United States. Permanent residency sponsorship is available for current H1-B visa holders in the United States.
  • This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in Houston, Texas. The selected candidate must be available to work in Houston, Texas on a scheduled basis.
  • Offered rate of compensation (Texas locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.  The hourly range for this position is $18 - $25/hr.
