Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Sr. Geotechnical Engineer to serve as a technical leader on transportation projects with the focus on design to work out of any of our New York Metro offices: Clifton, NJ; Piscataway, NJ or New York, NY.

This role is available immediately.

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead Geotechnical Engineer on projects responsible for overseeing design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and technical specifications for assigned projects.
  • Prepare subsurface exploration programs, laboratory assignments and preparing geotechnical reports.
  • Evaluate ground conditions and understand their impacts on design and construction.
  • Provide guidance to entry level Engineers and other staff to bring completion to projects.
  • Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
  • Independently perform all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.
  • Lead/manage geotechnical engineering investigations.
  • Perform pile analysis, slope stability, settlement analysis, ground improvements and seepage analysis.
  • Utilize computer software programs, such as: APILE, LPILE, GROUP, SEEPW, SLOPEW and GRLWEAP.
  • Prepare geotechnical engineering reports and construction documents.
  • This position will work both independently and in teams.
  • Senior technical resource may serve as technical advisor for team.
  • Provide specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
  • Perform quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
  • Will work with and coordinate staff to meet project needs and schedule.
  • Meet with Clients.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field + 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • New York Professional Engineering License (PE)

Preferred Qualifications

  • NJ PE nice to have
  • Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering
  • 10 years of experience preferred, but not required
  • Experience with NYSDOT, and NJDOT
  • Ability to prepare geotechnical engineering reports and construction documents
  • Has competent analysis/design experience with slope stability (Computer software – Slope W), retaining walls, shallow and deep foundations (Computer Software: APile, Group, Lpile), experience with Seepage analysis (Computer software: SeepW), settlement analysis, Bulkhead and Support of Excavation Analysis
  • Strong computer skills including extensive knowledge of technical software; PLAXIS or MIDAS preferred
